First HOTT battle

Have had a first go at using the HOTT rules. Used a Goblinoid army - 4 hordes, 2 warband, 2 knight, troll behemoth, magician general, dragon; versus a viking army - 2 blades, 2 shooters, 2 riders, hero general, frost giant behemoth, dragon.

here's the set up at start; with the goblin hodes advancing on their left and the warband plus trolls in the middle. the opposing knights and riders cancelled each other out on the far flank.
Next moves;
the goblin magician took a shot at ensorcelling the viking heroes. He failed.

then the viking shooters on the right forced a recoil from the hordes opposite them.

this was the clash in the centre, apparently in favour of the goblinoids, whose trolls outflanked the viking shooters.

yet it was the orc warband who forced back the frost giants.

then however, things started to unravel very quickly. the viking hero took a chance to charge the gobbo magician general, correctly assuming that he could win the battle with a victory there.

the viking blades destroyed two gobbo hordes

the frost giants destroyed their orc warband opponents.

and it came down to the climactic combat between generals. starting scores were +5 versus +4; both got a +1 bonus for being generals. Both rolled a 2. Having won by a single point, the viking hero destroyed the gobbo magician, rather than simply recoiling him - damn it, should have checked the combat results before leaving that open.
game over; much more quickly than anticipated. lots of fun.
